Easy Dresser Makeover

What You Need
- Chest or dresser
- Sherwin-Williams 6593 Coral Bells Satin Paint
- 1-1/4-inch low-tack painter's tape
- Plaid Folk Art Acrylic Colors in Taffy #825 and Maple Syrup #945
- 1/2-inch flat artist's brush
- Plaid Wash Medium #698
- Plaid Folk Art Satin Lacquer #774
- Paintbrush
- Sandpaper
- Wood filler
- Tape measure
- Decorative hardware
How to Make It
- Clean and sand the chest or dresser of your choice.
- Remove the hardware and fill any holes (you'll re-drill them later based on where you want your leaf design).
- Paint the outer chest cabinet and the drawer fronts with two coats of Coral Bells paint, allowing ample drying time between coats.
- Do not paint the drawer sides or the inside of the cabinet -- the drawers will stick.
- Measure and divide your drawers in fifths and apply painter's tape to mark off two stripes. Paint the two stripes with Taffy.
- Let the paint dry and then apply a second coat for good coverage.
- Determine where you want your leaf pattern and mark the placement on each drawer, measuring an equal distance from each edge.
- Combine the Maple Syrup and Taffy paint colors, picking up each color on an edge of the flat artist's brush.
- Blend the two together slightly as you paint each leaf, but do not mix them into one color. You should see both colors on your leaves. (Practice your leaves on paper before beginning on the chest.)
- Let the paint dry thoroughly.
- Mix equal parts of Wash Medium and Maple Syrup paint to make an antiquing glaze.
- Lightly brush on the glaze, working in the direction of the stripes on the drawers, in the same direction on the top, and top to bottom on the sides.
- Let the glaze dry thoroughly.
- Finish with one or two coats of Satin Lacquer, allowing ample drying time between coats.
- Finally, drill holes and add your decorative hardware.
