Fireplace Wreath

Nontraditional holiday colors -- green and orange -- inspired this rich hearth setting.

What You Need:

This stunning wreath and garland add magic to the home.
  • Wire wreath form
  • Small magnolia branches
  • Medium-gauge floral wire
  • Hyacinth sticks, optional
  • 45 assorted pears for wreath or 60 for garland
  • Small nails
  • Hammer
  • Wire cutter

Wreath

Instructions:

1. To make leaf base for wreath, cluster magnolia branches into groups of three, wiring together at stem. Wire clusters to wreath form, fitting each cluster tightly into the previous cluster; work in at a slight angle. Fill in wreath with leaf clusters.

2. Add fruit, using floral wire or hyacinth sticks. To attach with wire, work wire through center of fruit, leaving extra wire to secure to frame. Place fruit on wreath at angles; attach with the wire. To attach with hyacinth sticks, skewer fruit with the sticks; wedge the sticks into the frame.

Garland

Instructions:

1. Cluster magnolia branches into groups of three, wiring together at stems. Working at a slight angle, fit each cluster tightly into the previous cluster; wire. Form garland to the desired length.

2. Place small nails diagonally in the corner where mantel meets wall. Drape the garland over the mantel; hold in place with the nails. Shape garland.

3. Attach fruit with wire or hyacinth sticks in clusters, with several fruits attached randomly between.

4. To attach with wire, work wire through center of fruit, leaving extra wire to secure to garland. Place fruit on garland at different angles; attach with wire. To attach with hyacinth sticks, skewer fruit with the sticks; wedge into the garland.
