    • Name that Ornament

Plain ornaments can be personalized for the kids with simple letter stickers found at a crafts store.

    • Vintage Paper Ornaments

These paper trims take their cue from vintage decorations. Rickrack, ribbon, scraps, rhinestones, and other embellishments turn them into dimensional gems for the tree.

    • Puffy Pom-Pom Ornaments

These yarn balls bring to mind ice-skating parties and warm hats. Make the poms using a pom-pom creator (available at crafts stores) and colorful acrylic yarn. Or, wrap scads of yarn around the middle of a paper-towel roll, slip off the yarn, and tie at the center. Clip the loop ends and fluff.

    • Photo Ornaments

Snap candid shots of friends, then turn the photos into ornaments. Hot-glue lace and ribbon around the edges of the pictures. Wrap the cut ends to the backs of the photos, finishing them with more glue to prevent fraying. Attach a hanging loop to the back of each photo ornament.

    • Peppermint Stick Starburst Ornament

This starburst of peppermint sticks explodes with color. Lightly coat a foam ball with red acrylic spray paint. Press peppermint sticks about 1/2 inch into the ball. Remove the sticks, add a dot of glue into each hole, and then replace the sticks.

    • Pushpin Ornament

This sparkly ornament is made from common pushpins. Insert clear pins in a circle around the middle of a foam ball, then add rows to cover the ball. A bent silver pipe cleaner forms the hanger.

    • Mini Present Ornament

Hide a sweet snack in mini packages that double as ornaments. Glue strips of felt to papier-mache boxes with snug-fitting lids; embellish with ribbon and trim. Use an awl or nail to punch a hole in the lid. For a hanging loop, insert ribbon ends through hole; knot ends inside the lid at the base.

    • Magnificent Music Notes Ornament

Decoupage classic holiday tunes onto plain ornaments and decorate your tree in song.

    • Newsworthy Christmas Ornament

The writing's on the walls of this miniature house ornament made from newspaper-covered chipboard. Modify the size and window placements of the pattern and enlarge the newsprint on a photocopier to create a variety of houses.
