Hand-Stitch a Snowscaped Tea towel for Christmas

Make flour-sack towels worthy of holiday display by adding a seasonal hand-stitched design.
Make the Snowman Towel

What You Need:

snowman tea towel

  • Tracing paper
  • Water-soluble marking pen
  • Pink flour-sack towel
  • Embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery needle
  • DMC embroidery floss: 1 skein each of white, brown (3863), and burgundy (815)
  • White four-hold buttons: one 3/4-inch and one 1-inch


How to Make It:

Enlarge the pattern onto tracing paper. Tape the pattern to a sunny window or light box. Tape the towel over the pattern, centering the design 2 1/4 inches from the bottom (front) edge of the towel. Using the marking pen, trace the pattern onto the towel.

For the snowman, attach buttons as indicated by broken-line circles on the pattern using embroidery stitches to secure. On the 1-inch "body" button, stitch a burgundy cross-stitch through the holes. On the 3/4-inch "head" button, use a burgundy straight stitch for the mouth and two brown French knots for eyes. Carefully press the finished piece.
