How to Make It:
  1. Enlarge the "Blue Stocking" pattern using a photocopier.
  2. Place the interfacing, fusible side up, on a flat surface. Pin the satin ribbons side-by-side on the interfacing. Weave the velvet ribbons through the satin ribbons; pin the ribbon ends to the interfacing. Fuse the ribbons to the interfacing following the manufacturer's instructions.
  3. Use the stocking pattern to cut a stocking front from the woven-ribbon piece. Reverse the pattern and cut a stocking back from the douppioni silk.
  4. Sew the stocking front to the back, leaving the top edge open. Trim the seams and clip the curves. Turn the stocking right side out; press. Overlapping the top 1/4-inch of the stocking, sew the 5/8-inch-wide ribbon around the stocking for facing. Fold the top 1 inch to the inside of the stocking; press.
  5. Cut a large V in each end of a 2-inch-wide length of blue ribbon. Fold the ribbon with one end longer than the other. Tack the fold inside the stocking with the ribbon ends draping down the stocking front. Personalize the stocking by sewing metal letters on the 1/8-inch-wide brown ribbon. Position across the stocking front; tack the ribbon at each seam and tie at the center back.
  6. To hang, fold a 2-inch-wide length of brown ribbon in half. Tack the fold to the top inside corner of the stocking.
