Make the Pillow

1. Using a water-soluble marking pen, draw a 14-inch square in the center of the linen. Referring to the photo, pin the tree tops and trunks to the square. Whipstitch pieces in place using ivory thread.

2. Referring to the photo, use six strands of gray floss and the darning needle to embroider a wavy chain stitch under tree trunks.

3. Sew two or three green buttons to each tree top using ivory thread.

4. For the larger snowflakes, use six strands of gray floss and make each snowflake with four straight stitches and four lazy daisy stitches. Sew a blue button to each snowflake center. Randomly place large snowflakes around trees, varying the stitch and button sizes.

5. For smaller snowflakes, use six strands of blue floss and eight straight stitches.

6. To assemble the pillow, fold under a 1/4-inch hem twice along short sides of pillow linen; sew.

7. With right sides together, fold the hemmed sides to the center to create a 17-inch square (the hemmed sides will overlap). Pin together the top and bottom edges; stitch edges. Turn shape right side out through opening; press. Insert the pillow form.
