Make a Christmas Card that Includes a Snowman Pin

Make a Christmas card that includes a removable snowman pin made from buttons and felt.

What You Need:

  • Felt scraps
  • Embroidery floss: orange, brown, black, and tan
  • One 3/8-inch button
  • Two 5/8-inch buttons
  • One 1-1/2-inch pin back
  • Black paint pen
  • Card stock; scissors; pinking shears
  • Stamp and ink pad; fine glitter

How to Make It:

  1. To make the pin: Cut inside felt piece 1-1/2x2-1/4 inches using straight-edge scissors. Cut outside felt piece 2x2-3/4 inches using pinking shears. Sew buttons onto the smaller felt piece as shown in the photo. If the small button has four holes, leave the top two open for the eyes and use orange embroidery floss to sew a carrot nose. If the small button does not have four holes, make small dots above the orange thread with a black paint pen for the eyes. Using black embroidery thread, sew larger buttons below the small button for the snowman body sections. Using all six strands of brown embroidery floss, stitch stick arms beside the middle button, using a stem outline stitch or long straight stitches. Using all six strands of tan embroidery floss, take a small stitch just under the small button and tie a loose knot for the scarf. Tie knots in the ends of both lengths of floss for the scarf ends. Sew center felt piece onto the larger felt backing piece, using six strands of black embroidery floss and securing with a decorative buttonhole stitch. On back, vertically stitch pin back in place.
  2. To make the card: Cut card stock paper 7x10 inches. Fold in half to make card 7x5 inches. On the front of the card, cut an opening 3x2-1/4 inches, starting 3 inches up from the bottom of the card. Stamp a greeting onto the card or write the message with a marker. Run a line of glue around the cut opening and dust with glitter. Pin the snowman to the inside of the card under the front opening.
