Friday Finds 6.13

One of my favorite things to do when entertaining is pairing food with wine or even beer. The right red can take pasta to a new level while a delicate white perfectly complements light seafood. This weekend, I want to mix it up and pair a cocktail with my meal. So, I headed over to Better Homes and Gardens Associate Food Editor Hali Ramdene for the 411 on pairing cocktails with food.

I loved this gorgeous Blackberry Gin Shooter from Dine and Dish.  It looks like a fun way to get the party started!  Hali recommended pairing the sweet shot with these Rosemary-Brie Chicken Burgers. “Rosemary and gin are a classic combination. This duo is perfect for summer grilling parties!”

Feeling like something sparkling? This Kombucha Cocktail from Camille Styles looks super refreshing and delicious. The perfect pairing for this summer strawberry drink? Creamy Avocado Basil Pasta. “The slightly-sour drink will cut through some of the pasta’s richness and the basil is a great match for strawberries.”

I love breaking out the blender and I can’t wait to make these Frozen Coconut Pineapple Margaritas from The Blond Cook. Rich and creamy, this tropical drink practically screams summer. Hali suggests a bold, spicy sandwich to enjoy with the frosty drink. We love these Sausage Dinner Hoagies!

One of my go-to summer sippers is shandy and the ultra-refreshing Southern Shandy from Pretty Plain Janes looks even better than the classic version. Their ingenious addition? Peach Brandy! Pair this with a smoky grilled Baconista Brat. “There’s nothing better than a grilled brat and a cool cocktail on a warm summer night.”

Looking for the perfect sangria? We’re partial to the gorgeous Watermelon Basil Sangria from JJ Begonia. Sweet, juicy watermelon and rose wine were meant to be together. A drink this sweet screams for steak. Hali recommends pairing it with these Greek Flat Iron Steaks. “These steaks are amazing and a great twist on a summer classic.”

There you have it! Our picks for perfectly paired cocktails and dishes. Have a favorite pairing? Let us know in the comments section!

Cheers!

Friday Finds 5.30

Summer’s here – let’s keep the cookin’ easy. It’s far too nice out to be standing over the stove. My favorites this week keep the oven off but the flavors on. Let’s fire up the grill!

I like to start things off with a cocktail and this light, tart Rhubarb, Grapefruit, and Thyme Cocktail from Top With Cinnamon looks amazing. Pretty, pink, and made for summer sipping.

My Invisible Crown’s Grilled Salmon Kebabs look amazing. Light, flavorful, and dare I say healthy… Perfect for summer and swimsuit season.

If you’ve never thrown your salad on the grill – I insist you give it a try this summer. Cool, crisp romaine gets a smoky, sweet flavor from a quick trip to the coals. Olives and Garlic has a must-try recipe – Grilled Romaine Lettuce Cobb Salad with Avocado Dressing.

Fresh summer fruit is about as good as it gets. Fearless Homemaker has found a way to make it better. Toss it with a zesty lime-mint dressing. Her Fruit Salad with Lime-Mint Dressing is gorgeous and can be customized with whatever fruit you like. Perfect for easy, breezy summer.

Is there anything more quintessentially summer than fudgsicles? These chocolate pops from A House In The Hills brought me right back to childhood. But, her Fudgsicle recipe is decidedly grown-up with healthy swaps like coconut, maple syrup, and avocado. I’ve already got a batch in my freezer.

Friday Finds 5.16

Asparagus season is here! I was lucky enough this year to be gifted a stash of wild asparagus and while I love asparagus simply roasted, I’m ready to try something new. Let’s make the most of spring’s best veggie with these simple yet stunning fresh asparagus recipes.

This seriously gorgeous Asparagus and Pancetta Pesto Pizza needs to be the star of your next dinner-time show. The Roasted Root certainly knows the way to my pizza-loving heart – pancetta, pesto, and fresh asparagus

Lil’ Luna shared a savory asparagus recipe that seems a little decadent and a lot delicious. I’ve already got the ingredients for Cream Cheese and Parmesan Asparagus on my shopping list!

Virtually Homemade’s Grilled Asparagus with Tomato Salad and Goat Cheese is so colorful it practically screams spring. I bet it tastes just as good as it looks.

For my next wine club, I’m going to whip up the tasty Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus from Damn Delicious. It’s a classic for a reason – everyone loves the salty, slightly sweet pairing.

I’ve got to thank Alaska from Scratch for putting a new spin on roasting asparagus. Her beautiful recipe for Roasted Asparagus with Blood Orange is light, citrusy, and perfect for spring.

Friday Finds 5.2

Break out the blender – it’s time to celebrate Cinco de Mayo! I don’t know that it gets much better than spicy hot salsa and slushy, sweet margaritas. Instead of braving the crowds at your local Mexican restaurant, whip up these festive recipes. They’re sure to please.

I love a lime margarita but this year, I’m going to invite blackberries to the party. Tide and Thyme had the same idea – her Blackberry Margaritas look amazing.

Guacamole is my go-to party dip. People LOVE it and for good reason… it’s delicious. I’m sure the Guacamole, Corn & Feta Dip from Horses & Heels will be the first to go at my next gathering.

If you’ve never had what I like to call a puffy taco, then you are missing out on some indulgent goodness. These Easy Navajo Tacos from The Recipe Critic start with refrigerated biscuit dough. Easy and delicious? Yes, please.

Let’s pour another drink, shall we? I loved this savory take on a classic margarita from Bell’alimento. I have a feeling this Cilantro Jalapeno Margarita will be showing up on my summer menus.

I like to end with something sweet and this dreamy Tres Leches Cake from Delicious Shots looks to die for. Creamy, soaked cake topped with whipped cream and berries. Sorry dinner, I’ll be skipping you tonight.

Happy celebrating and cheers!

Friday Finds 4.18

I’m going to come right out and say it. Packing a lunch is something that stumps me every week. Most mornings, I barely get out the door with my coffee – let alone a lunch for the day. And while I love, love restaurant lunches, there are times when I really just want a homemade sandwich. So, this week I’ve set my sights on make-at-home lunches that are anything but boring. These gorgeous recipes are too pretty not to make for lunch, dinner, or any time you feel like a homemade meal.

Think beyond PB and J with this delicious sandwich from Eat it Kansas City. Her Fontina Grilled Cheese with Cantaloupe and Crushed Pistachio looks like a sweet and salty masterpiece with layers of gooey cheese, crunchy nuts, and juicy melon. Did I mention the melty, cheesy goodness?

Instead of topping their salad with a vinegary dressing, Happyolks are pickling the veggies themselves! Their recipe for Quick Pickled Vegetables over Herb-y Black Lentils looks amazing. Talk about an explosion of flavors and textures. Better yet, the pickled veggies also make for a great Bloody Mary!

The Chef’s Wife is proving not all great lunches need to be served between two slices of bread. Her Smoky Carrot Hummus is a vibrant way to welcome spring. The enticing combo of sweet carrots and smoky coriander sounds amazing on everything from crackers to veggies.

I love a good Bahn Mi, a traditional Vietnamese sandwich layered on crusty baguette with meat, cilantro, and pickled carrots. The Smokey Sweet Potato Bahn Mi from Earthy Feast has it all – creamy sweet potatoes, spicy jalapeño, tangy carrots, and a saucy miso mayo. Perfection.

Let’s end with something sweet shall we. Something sweet and spicy. 10th Kitchen has whipped up the most decadent Meyer Lemon and Candied Jalapeno Ice Cream. Sweet, tart Meyer Lemon and fiery candied jalapenos should hang out together more often in my book. A stunning dessert.

I hope these simply gorgeous dishes inspire you to think outside the lunch box.
