Better Homes and Gardens Cooking Experience
I’m Gesine. Professional pastry chef, cookbook/ baking memoir author, gentlewoman farmer, neophyte brewer, baby beekeeper, guest instructor at King Arthur Flour & guest food editor for Runner’s World.
For the first time in HISTORY, Better Homes and Gardens is opening their famous test kitchens to the pubic and I get to be there! Even better, I get to teach all of the wonderful, fabulous people who have the extraordinary luck to participate in this momentous occasion a few tricks of my own sweet trade.
I’ve had the great pleasure of working with the food wizards at Better Homes on 4 beautiful dessert features, the latest coming up this December with what I think is the best holiday treat extravaganza ever to grace paper: The 25 Sweets of Christmas. When I come to Iowa, I’ll be revealing some of the pastry secrets that went into creating this collection of delectables.
One of my great joys is teaching the art of baking. I am a pastry chef, cookbook author and regular guest instructor at King Arthur Flour’s Baking Education Center where I’ve taught my students everything from creating a pyramid rainbow cake to making homemade puff pastry that’s then turned into one of my signature pastries, the Gateau St. Swanaré. When Nancy Hopkins, the Senior Deputy Food and Entertainment Editor , asked me to join her in Iowa for October’s Cooking Experience, I jumped at the chance to bring some pastry love to the heartland.
That I get to share some of the secrets of our 25 Sweets of Christmas feature has me giddy beyond words. I’d be so honored if you’d come join me to play with some butter and sugar!
Registration is now online here.
And remember, bake it like you mean it!
