style an entry
The entry is the first impression of your home, for those who live there and also for those who visit. It should be a smart space that serves as place to toss your keys, phone, and mail when you arrive at home, but it’s also an opportunity to place your personal style on display for visitors who pass through the threshold. Here are five ways to style an entry with pieces that guarantee a polished presentation to all who enter.
With a Console. If there was one piece of furniture that is destined for the foyer it’s the console table. Defined by its long and narrow shape, a console table squeezes into narrower spaces and is perfect for an entry because of its design. Pair it with a statement mirror or work of art, then add a bouquet of seasonal blooms to make your foyer welcoming.
With a Dresser, Demilune, or Desk. Furniture with drawers allows for additional storage for a charging station or a place to keep stamps for correspondence, extra sets of keys, or smaller seasonal attire like mittens and scarves. Add a lamp and photographs to give the scene greater personality.
With a Bench. Whether your bench is built in or freestanding, placing a bench in the entry acknowledges another important purpose of an entry, as a place to remove shoes and set down groceries. From a style perspective, including a bench is an opportunity to layer fabrics and pillows to add pattern and color.
With a Round Table. Space permitting, a round pedestal table is the perfect perch for a daily vignette in the entry. It can be situated in a central position or off to the side. Books, decorative accents, and seasonal blooms placed on top of a round pedestal create a sophisticated entry.
With a Statement Piece. Perhaps you possess an heirloom you inherited from Aunt Rose or you’ve scored an antique on a weekend second hand treasure hunt. Placing that piece in the entry pays homage to its importance in your family and offers a chance to share its history with anyone who visits.
In our foyer, I use a simple console table topped with a tray to collect the daily mail and as a place to drop my keys. How have you styled your entry in your home?
