Decorating with Orange

With all the leaves beginning to turn on the trees and the pumpkins popping up around town, the color orange is very much in the spotlight right now. Orange is a vibrant and happy color that can be used in large doses, or in smaller ways as an accent or accessory. Orange is one hue that will always bring warmth and vitality into your home. Here are a variety of ways to decorate with this fun color!
Paint with Orange. Orange is guaranteed to brings a punch of color to any dining, living, or bedroom space, and is especially fun when used as an accent wall.

Upholster With Orange. An sofa will take the spotlight when it is upholstered in this vivid hue. Toned down shades of burnt orange complement earth toned walls, furnishings, and warm gold finishes, or pair it with its neighbor yellow for big impact.
Dine with Orange. Instead of a sofa, consider the alternative of using orange on your chairs in a dining space for a look that is both stimulating and stunning!
Accent with Orange. If you love the color, but prefer it in smaller doses, orange can pretty up a space when introduced in the form of throw pillows, ceramic stools, window panels, and decorative accents.
Cool It Down with Blue. On the color wheel, the complement to orange is blue, and pairing them together will always be beautiful and chic.
Heat it Up with Pink. Instead of the color across the wheel look to its analogous neighbors: coral and pink. An orange and pink combination heightens the energy of a room as they mix and mingle together.
Take It Outdoors. Introduce the color beyond your main interiors by bringing in into your sunroom or out onto the porch. Orange is a perfect mate for all the botanicals that bloom outdoors in the same hue.
Simple or Subtle. Even if you’re not one to include orange as a major player in your home’s color palette, it can always play a nuanced role. Let it appear in a small scale floral on your window panels, in your weekly vase of flowers, or in less saturated tones like the rich terra cotta fabric seen on window seat seen below.
Do you prefer to decorate with orange in vivid citrus hues or more toned down shades of burnt orange or terra cotta? How have you used orange in your home?

So far I have only used orange in a kids room but I wouldn’t mind using it in any other room. My favorite hue is the deep, warm orange like the one combined with the grey chair and acqua wallpaper or the one on the ceramic garden stools and fu dogs in the living room with the white sofa. Great post!

I am quite partial to orange. Our “Orange Room” is my office… and the accompanying rooms each display a bit to carry through. I prefer to paint a burnt orange or terra cotta… but enjoy a pop of color in a vivid orange hue with accessories!
