Kitchen Lighting: Pendants That Wow

We’ve had a single plain chandelier hanging in our kitchen for a few years and the more I browse the galleries of modern kitchens, the more I notice the wow factor from eye catching pendant fixtures suspended over a kitchen island.  We’re convinced it’s time to upgrade to a similar look.

Polygonal faceted fixtures are hugely popular right now – their multiple angles reflect light all around the kitchen, and they make a major style statement suspended above the center island in these modern spaces.

You can’t go wrong with classic shapes in classic finishes from chrome to nickel to oil rubbed bronze, large pairs on display are guaranteed to give your kitchen a fresh and modern look.

  1. I love all those kitchens! They are all so well designed. The pendants are not over whelming but give the spaces that finishing touch. Great pendant round up too! I want them all.

  2. I like the first one, its lighter. The other ones are too heavy for my taste. Plus they call for a large kitchen island, which I do not have. Thanks for the post. I like a few from the examples below the kitchen pics.

  3. I have to say, popular they may be, those polygonal pendants look like soccer balls to me. I do, however, love the red caged pendant you posted. Do you have pricing on that? It’s so whimsical and a pop of colour with a light touch – fabulous!

  4. I have a very similar looking one as the first one hanging over my sink. I got it at Canadian Tire for $79.00. There sure a lot of interesting ones in this post.

  5. I have 2 of your picks pinned for my new kitchen and entry way. Way to be right on trend!!

  6. I just remodeled my kitchen & took the 3 pendants out (over the island) & replaced them with cans. I did some carpentry to the windows adding an arch over them to tie the cabinets together & placed a crystal chandelier pendant over each of them. Love them. You should see my new kitchen. Love it! See pictures of my kitchen at:

  7. Thanks Angela, that’s what I’m here for!

  8. I love all the new country style photos! They are fabulous! Gives me inspiration for redoing my living room and kitchen!

  9. I love the nickel lanterns featured in the white kitchen (last picture)
Any idea where I can purchase? Thank you

  10. Same question as katy..nickel laterns in last picture, white kitchen…who is the maker and where can they be purchased?

  11. Hello BT and Katy, not sure the exact source but here are two similar versions:
If you search online for “chrome lantern pendant” or “nickel lantern pendant” you’ll see a lot of options pop up.

  12. Hi, Kate

your posting is great, love the rubbed bronze lanterns from the seconds last picture. Could the maker be found among the links you already posted in response to the questions about the nickel lanterns?
