Trend: Gold lamps in decor.
The gold trend is anything but over, and I’m a huge fan of gold accents in a room, especially when it comes to lighting. It is subtle, but can make a big difference, and add just the right bit of bright polish. For example, here is a favorite styled in Henry’s nursery. This room has lots of natural and neutral finishes, but that pop of gold injects a bit of personality and a refreshing textural change:

One trend that is overtaking fashion and interior design, and one trend that I hope doesn’t go away for awhile is copper. You could translate that into more than just copper. Brass and even gold are in it to win it right now as well. When decorating with copper, it’s best to use it sparingly. Even used in just one piece is usually the perfect amount. We see that the outfit below only has a pop of gold in her bracelet, which blends beautifully with the deep greens. Of course the easiest way to use copper is in lighting. Frames, ceramics and even some furniture pieces can be great copper options. Here’s the look:
Color Inspiration: Leaves in Pants.
Talipot Palm is one of those greens that you just can’t get enough of. Try it in fabrics, baskets and even upholstered pieces.
Color Inspiration: Flowers in Pants.
For a pop of color, Fireworks is perfect for pillows and other accessories.
Color Inspiration: Pants.
Chartreuse could be a very pretty accent color to use on a wall. Also would look lovely used for an upholstered piece.
Bonus: Paint your entire room in Pure White for a clean backdrop.
Below is a room that has a spread of pretty greens and one breathtaking copper pendant. Are you loving this color palette? Or are you ready for something else?

TREND: Unique Light Fixtures
Lighting fixtures are probably one of my favorite things to choose when decorating a space. This is good news because retail companies have an amazing selection of beautiful and unique fixtures. A light fixture can really make such an impact in a space. It can quickly make an outdated room look new again. It can add a touch of modern to an otherwise traditional space. It can even serve as inspiration for putting together an entire room. I love that!
As I was searching the BHG archives for decorating ideas, I stumbled upon this gorgeous dining area. There is so much to love about this space. Among my favorite things are the pops of color in an otherwise neutral space. This makes decorating for the season so effortless. Another thing that caught my attention is the gorgeous pendant light above the table. I love that most of this space is rather traditional, warm, and a bit country, while the pendant light adds modern appeal and clean lines. It also works very well with the graphic details in the window panes and staircase. It’s perfection.
Today I’m sharing my ten favorite pendant lights. Let me tell you, it was hard to narrow it down to ten. I hope these lights will provide lots of inspiration for your interior decorating. Which is your favorite?

Hi everyone, Karman Hotchkiss, here! About a month ago, I was replacing a lightbulb in myback hallway at home. For the first time in about a decade, I really looked at the sconce I was putting the bulb into. And I thought, ‘”That’s the ugliest light fixture I’ve ever seen!” I instantly realized it was (past) time for a little lighting update.
The good news: There are more cool, trendy, interesting light fixtures than ever before. And replacing one requires only minimal DIY skills. In my research for that replacement sconce, I looked at tons of new fixtures and compiled this list of 5 hot trends in lighting.
If you’re ready to shed a little new light (har-har) on your fixtures, here are 5 trends to think about:
1. Colorful. Lights shouldn’t have to blend into the background. Use one to add a punch of color, with the shade or with the fixture itself.
2. Overscale. Pick a light that’s big. Really big.
3. Industrial/scientific. Exposed bulbs, “cage” designs, raw materials … They all evoke the sense that you just snagged your light from a warehouse or laboratory.
4. Organic. Shapes and materials inspired by nature are sure to add a layer of texture to your decor.
5. Beads and baubles. Crystals are nothing new to light fixtures. But the latest incarnation uses strings of beads or individual bubble-like balls.
Which of these ideas would work best in your home? Find a trend (or two!) you like and update a fixture today.

Here’s the thing, I have a tiny obsession with light fixtures. Whether it is a table lamp, a pendant fixture, or a gorgeous chandelier, I believe that the right lighting can make or break a room. I even have a Pinterest board dedicated to light fixtures. I recently came across these two images from BHG.com while searching for some inspiration for my own dining room. I think both of these fixtures are perfect for their particular spaces. They have major wow factor which creates a dynamic, unique, and memorable look. I’m so happy to see the emerging trend of interesting, and even a bit wacky, chandeliers and pendant lights.
With this inspiration in my back pocket, I decided to do a little digging and found twelve wow-factor-worthy light fixtures that will certainly transform any space into a beautifully designed room. Go bold or go home, right? Click here to get the full list of products shown below.
Which one of these lights is your favorite? What other funky fixtures are you loving?
