From My Home To Yours: Acrylic

Over the past couple years, I’ve embraced a new style in my home by incorporating more contemporary elements. Even though meshing the new with the old is challenging at times, overall it’s been it’s been a fun process. Plus, I’m loving the results.

One easy way I’ve found to add a more modern feel is with acrylic furnishings. Because of its new-found popularity, there is a huge array of items in this style. From chairs and tables to accessories like lamps and tape dispensers, you can incorporate acrylics into any room.

I’ve used a console table in my entryway. Because most acrylic furnishings are clear, they don’t take up much visual space, but can still be super functional.

I also recently added a ghost chair to my guest room. Its traditional lines work well in my 1916 home, and the acrylic adds a contemporary air. The perfect combination!

To inspire you to add a bit of this style to your home, I’ve gathered a few of my favorite pieces. I especially love how some of the items are paired with gold and brass!

For the Love of Color: Black

Today I’m mashing up both of my Style Spotters series; For the Love of Color meets From My Home to Yours! Last week on my blog, I created a stylish fall mantel. I challenged myself to create something that was spooky and fitting for Halloween while still stylish and chic. It was also important that my festive spooky decor matched the rest of my space as well. Thus was born this Halloween mantel.

When I’m styling a space, one of the things that I always think of first is the color scheme.  I think that is why color is such a big part of what I do. For this particular vignette, black was an important element. Paired with just a few of the right accessories, black is a perfect color to create a haunted look. I also love that black is a neutral color. While a lot of these items take on a spooky look when grouped together, alone they can be really dynamic pieces for your everyday decor.

From My Home To Yours: Chandeliers

When it comes to decorating or redesigning a room in my house, one of my favorite things to choose for the space is the ceiling light. From chandeliers to pendants, I’m constantly searching for gorgeous light fixtures. Each season all of my favorite stores seem to come out with new fixtures, and they are one of the first things I check out when a new line is launched.

I decided to focus on light fixtures today because I’m on the hunt for a fabulous new chandelier for my master bedroom. I’m working on a little redesign project and need the perfect piece to make the room come together. In my opinion, a light fixture can really make or break a space.

After finding lots of beautiful fixtures for other rooms in my home, the pressure is on to come up with something equally wonderful for my bedroom. Here are some of my current favorites. And, if you’re following along with my bedroom makeover, you may just see one of these fixtures show up in my space.

Which of these chandeliers do you love the most? What’s your favorite home decor item to shop for?

From My Home To Yours: Coffee Tables

If I could pull it off, I would probably have a coffee table in every room of my house. Not only are there many unique coffee tables on the market today, but styling coffee tables is just so much fun. It’s almost as if they are little display tables for showing off your favorite books, fun accessories, and one-of-a-kind finds.

I’m finally settling in to my own space, and over the past year I’ve purchased two coffee tables. It’s been a treat to rearrange them for the seasons, adorning them with things I love.

Since there are so many fabulous coffee tables available, I thought I’d share a few of my new favorites with you. From modern to traditional, wood to upholstered, you’re sure to find a coffee table to suit your space. Then you can start styling it with all of your beautiful treasures.

Let me know in the comments which type of coffee table you’re loving these days. Also, what fun accessories grace your coffee tables?

From My Home to Yours: Pattern

Recently, I participated in a Summer Tour of Homes with some truly fabulous home decor bloggers. It was a rewarding experience because it made me clean my house and it allowed me to see my place as a whole rather than as individual rooms. When we decorate our homes, we want each room to look great, yet it’s so important that it all work together as well. This doesn’t mean that things need to match, but styles and colors should work together harmoniously.

I’ve learned over the years that my house tends to look best with more neutral colors on the wall. I’ve embraced this fact and have found so many beautiful neutral colors that allow the architecture and details to take center stage. However, as you may know, I love color, so painting gray walls is often difficult.

This is where color and pattern come in. Take my living room, for example. While the walls and furnishings are mostly neutral, I’ve made the space come alive with bold color and pattern. And although there are a lot of different patterns, they play together nicely against the neutral background. Mixing patterns also works for me because it’s an excuse to buy unique home accessories, something I love to do.

Today, I’m sharing a few of my favorites both from the living room and other areas in my home. I hope these examples inspire you to try some fun and interesting patterns in your space.
