For the Love of Color: Black

Today I’m mashing up both of my Style Spotters series; For the Love of Color meets From My Home to Yours! Last week on my blog, I created a stylish fall mantel. I challenged myself to create something that was spooky and fitting for Halloween while still stylish and chic. It was also important that my festive spooky decor matched the rest of my space as well. Thus was born this Halloween mantel.

When I’m styling a space, one of the things that I always think of first is the color scheme.  I think that is why color is such a big part of what I do. For this particular vignette, black was an important element. Paired with just a few of the right accessories, black is a perfect color to create a haunted look. I also love that black is a neutral color. While a lot of these items take on a spooky look when grouped together, alone they can be really dynamic pieces for your everyday decor.

For the Love of Color: Burnt Orange

As much as I dread the shorter days and cooler temperatures, one of my favorite things about fall is the changing colors of the landscape. Here in the mountains of Central PA, we have exquisite color shows when the leaves begin to turn. While it doesn’t last long, it sure is magical.

This past weekend I started adding fall colors to my own home. Red, purples, golds, and oranges instantly remind me of the season. While I love traditional country fall decor, I like to be a bit more subtle in my own space. Just by changing around a few accessories and textures, a room can instantly have a cozier feeling.

Today, inspired by the image above, I’m sharing a few of my favorite burnt orange accessories. Several of these pieces tucked around in your space (and some fresh pumpkins for good measure) will have your home looking “fallified” in no time.

For the Love of Color: Copper

TREND: Copper

If you’ve been following my posts here on Style Spotters for a while (or on my blog Inspired by Charm), then you probably know I have a slight obsession with all things gold. As I’ve begun to get my home ready for fall, I’ve noticed how many gold and brass accents I have. Even though I still love them, I’m always up for trying something different, such as copper.

Over the past year, copper has been gaining in popularity. This fall, however, copper has come out in a big way in everything from light fixtures to flatware to pillows. While this metal is a kitchen classic, as seen in the glimmering pots above, new furnishings and accessories have given us reasons to incorporate copper into other areas of our home as well.

With its warm orange and pink undertones, I have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more copper pop up this fall and holiday season. What do you think? Have you always been a fan of copper? Do you plan to add a few copper pieces to your home decor?

For the Love of Color: Mint Green

Today is all about mint green. I was so inspired when I saw this bedroom with bright mint walls that I began searching for everything mint green. I’m not a stranger to the color. I have a feature wall in my office / living room that is painted a shade of mint. Something about the color instantly calms me. I’m pretty sure everyone can benefit from a splash of it here and there.

What I also love about mint green is that while it’s certainly trending now, in some ways, it’s a classic. It has come back time and time again. Remember the mint green kitchen items of the 1950s?

In case you’re hesitant to wrap a room in mint, I have found some fun accessories that will allow you to try the color in smaller doses. From chairs to sumo wrestler statues (Yes, I went there.), you’ll be loving this soothing hue in no time.

For the Love of Color: Purple

Right now I’m in the process of giving my bedroom a little makeover. Currently, it has a primary color palette of red, blue, and yellow with a bit of a country feel. Over the past year my tastes have changed and grown, so it’s time for something different. I plan to make the space a bit more modern, move some furniture around, and switch up the color scheme.

You’re probably wondering what all of this has to do with purple. Well, the plan for the new space focuses on jewel tones – rich magenta, deep purple, emerald green, and so on. I’m picturing a very clean, crisp space with pops of these deep saturated colors. As a result, my eyes have been drawn to these colors a lot lately.

I especially love this kitchen and the punch of purple on the accent wall. It really brings the space alive and demands attention. It’s fun to infuse color in a space, and this is such a fabulous way to do it. I also love how the other colors in the accessories work with the wall color.

Inspired by this kitchen space and my new bedroom, I thought I’d browse in some of my favorite stores and find pieces that would bring a pop of purple into your space. Once, I complete my little bedroom makeover, I’ll be back to share a few more ideas for working purple and other jewel tones into your decor.

As always, happy decorating!

For the Love of Color: Coral

TREND: Coral

It’s no secret that coral has become one of today’s hottest colors. Whether it’s in fashion, entertaining, or decorating, coral is making an appearance everywhere, and I for one couldn’t be more excited. There is something about this warm, peach-like pink that just makes my heart sing. And yes, even though it’s traditionally been a more feminine color choice, I find it happy and welcoming. So much so that I think it’s perfect for both men and women.

Recently, I was drawn to the coral tones in this colorful kitchen nook. The space feels joyful and alive, in part because of the coral accents against the white backdrop. From the pillows to the curtains to the glassware to the fresh peaches, coral makes this an inviting room where I would love to spend my mornings.

After searching some of my favorite shops, I’ve pulled together a fabulous collection of coral-inspired goodies to help you add a punch of pink to your space. What pieces are your favorites? Have you fallen for coral, too?
