As you may know, Pantone will be announcing its color of the year for 2014 within the next couple of weeks. Even though it won’t make a huge difference in how I plan to decorate my own space, I’m always intrigued by the color choice. I also find it fun to watch the trends in design, food, and fashion throughout the year.
When the 2014 color is announced, Emerald, the color of 2013, will quickly lose its place in the spotlight. However, before it bids us adieu, I thought I’d take one final trip to “Emerald City” to see what wonders this color brought us this year.
While Emerald has never been a go-to color for me, I’ve come to appreciate it. I’ve even incorporated it in my own home. Nothing big or grand, but little touches here and there. I do applaud the folks who created this amazing gallery wall of green frames and black and white photographs. It’s stunning!
So, as one last nod to Emerald, I pulled together some of my favorite pieces to share with you today. Whether you go bold with a sofa or just bring in a small accessory, give Emerald a try in your space. As they say, you never know if you love something until you try it.
Have you already incorporated Emerald into your home? Any guesses (or hopes) about what the color of 2014 will be?

TREND: Deep, Rich Colors
I’m not sure if I should blame it on the season, but lately I have been totally obsessed with purple. During the fall, deep purples are a natural color choice for decorating. Inspired by the fall leaves and ripe grapes, this beautifully rich color provides a regal flair to any space. I even created a few seasonal centerpiece ideas around the color for my own table.
Purple is also a great color if you’re looking to add a touch of glitz and glam to your space. Take this photo for example. I just love how this bold purple rug ties in so nicely with an ornate gold framed mirror. Throw in a splash of turquoise and a little greenery, and it’s a winning combination!
Inspired by my new fondness for purple, I put together a few of my favorite pieces to help you add a rich and regal look to your space. Whether you want to dive in with an area rug or just test the waters with a few accessories for your office, I’m certain you will love what this color can do for your home. Let us know in the comments if you’re loving this deep rich color as much as we are.

I’m so excited to be starting a new series here on Style Spotters. It’s all about color. Each week I’ll focus on a new color and share ideas about how to incorporate it inyour space.
I’m not going bold with my first color choice, but I love it just the same. Today I was especially inspired by this gorgeous living room. While the red accents certainly caught my eye, all of the beautiful neutral colors of this space, especially the grays, were what drew me in. Deep grays in the artwork and accessories offer dimension and shape as the lighter gray on the armchair adds cozy comfort and warmth.
What I love most about gray is all of the variety. Whether warm or cool, light or dark, it’s a simple color to incorporate into home because it goes beautifully with almost every other color. Plus, if you like to change things up for the season, a gray backdrop allows your to quickly switch accessories to suit the season. Imagine the image above with light blue accents instead of red. That would be the perfect look for summer.
To get you started, today I’m sharing a few of my favorite gray statement pieces. These pieces will easily coordinate into any space around your home and be with you for a lifetime even as your color and style choices change.. I hope you enjoy my selections.
Have you come to love and incorporate gray into your home?
