When I found out I was pregnant this spring, my husband and I started dreaming about a babymoon trip (read: oh-my-gosh-this-is-the-last-chance-to-go-on-vacation-for-a-really-long-time-and-we-have-to-go-now trip). After I had bounced back from the first trimester, we put our plans into action and hopped on a plane for 15 days in Ireland, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Austria.

We would be covering a lot of ground during that time, and I didn’t want to be hauling suitcase after suitcase across the continent. So, I decided to streamline my makeup bag — no small task for someone who spends every day obsessing over the latest and greatest beauty products. But, I was able to find five faves that stood the test of travel and didn’t weigh down my carry-on.

1. Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo (Travel Size)

Living Proof Perfect Hair Day Dry Shampoo

Dry shampoo for brunettes is tough — its residue usually gives me more of a scary glimpse into my (probably not-too-distant) gray-haired future than a fresh, clean feeling. But this dry shampoo is designed to be shaken off (cue Taylor Swift) after 30 seconds, whisking away any leftovers and leaving my hair feeling more like I had just used a traditional shampoo. Disclaimer: I wasn’t sure how the pressurized can would do under the plane, so I kept this one in my bag at all times. ($12, livingproof.com)

2. Dickinson’s Original Witch Hazel Daily Refreshingly Clean Cleansing Cloths

Witch Hazel Towelettes

Air travel allegedly dries out your skin, but it usually leaves me feeling like my pores are filled with all that recycled air. I stashed these individually wrapped wipes in my purse for on-the-go cleansing without water at any time. ($4.49 for 20, drugstore.com)

3. Stemology SunVeil Complete OneTint Moisturizer in SPF 17

Stemology SunVeil

With its tint that matched my skin tone perfectly, this handy dandy bottle allowed me to roll foundation, sunscreen, and moisturizer into one for the ultimate beauty bag win. ($78, stemology.com)

4. Lipstick Queen Lipstick in Jean Queen

Jean Queen

Touted as the perfect lipstick to wear with jeans, this shade paired well with our vacay’s casual wardrobe, adding just a pop of color without looking overdone. Bonus: Its super-moisturizing formula also eliminated the need to carry lip balm. ($22, nordstrom.com)

5. Rejuva Socks and Leggings

Rejuva Socks

When my doctor said it was OK to travel abroad, it came with one caveat: I had to wear compression socks on the plane. I agreed after a lengthy eyeroll, and set out to find a pair that didn’t look quite so…medical. Luckily I found these babies, which have somehow managed to turn one of the least glamorous parts of pregnancy into something cute.(prices vary; shoprejuva.com)

Note: I got the OK from my doc for both travel and the products listed above, but be sure to check with yours if you’ve got a bun in the oven!

Fall is easily one of my favorite seasons. What’s not to love? It’s bursting with golden and amber hues. It gives you a reason to pull out your cozy sweaters, plaid scarves and riding boots from the attic. It’s a reason to drink pumpkin spice lattes and make your favorite comfort foods.

But, perhaps my favorite part of the harvest season is the beautiful hues and fashion it brings with it. In honor of this, I’ve provided 5 ways you can bring brilliant style and color to your day-to-day manicure.

From hair color to eyeliner to bedroom accessories, gemstone hues are trending just about everywhere, which is one of the many reasons why I’m obsessing over Love Maegan’s Jewel-Toned Manicure.

You may know her from Restaurant: Impossible or her work revamping countless spaces for her Boston-based firm, but interior designer Taniya Nayak has a new gig: Ellen DeGeneres handpicked her to represent ED on Air, the comedian’s new whimsical home line for QVC. Writer Jolene Edgar interviewed Taniya for the November issue to find out about her fall obsessions–Ellen-related and otherwise:

“ED is Ellen’s nickname–it’s what Portia and her closest friends call her. These Chunky Becket Knit Throws are among my favorite things in the fall line. I love the textural design of the weave–it reminds me of my most beloved winter sweaters.”

“I always keep a travel candle like this one from Paddywax with me—the kind that comes in a tin with a lid—when I’m staying in a hotel, it really soothes me.”

“I like a heavy, precise liquid line on top, and Sephora Collection Long-Lasting 12HR Wear Eye Liner stays all day and doesn’t smudge. I pull it out a bit, extending the line just beyond my lashes, not a full cat eye.”

“The day cream and serum from Natura Bisse’s Cure line saved my skin. I’ve struggled with mild adult acne on the sides of my face–I think from the heavy TV makeup–but I started using these products, and suddenly, I feel like I can go out without any makeup on. I could never do that before. They evened my skin tone, and I don’t get blemishes anymore.”

Transitioning your makeup routine to cooler weather typically involves ditching everything spring-y (and dare we say fun?) in favor of dark, moody colors. No so this year. New fall launches feature tons of upbeat blues, teals, and greens for eyes and feminine pinks for lips. Since these saturated colors can be scary for some, we asked a few of our favorite beauty experts for ideas on how to wear these runway favorites in real life.

Smoky eye: Blogger Caralyn Brook of Maskcara.com recently demoed a dramatic new twist on the traditional smoky eye. Instead of smudging charcoal or even black shadow, she used a combination of rose gold and metallic green. If you’re not a fan of green, this look would also work with bright blue, navy, or teal options. Click here for the full tutorial.

Subtle liner: Not ready to go crazy with color on your eyes? That’s totally fine. Instead of going all out with shadow, try a  swoosh of eyeliner along your bottom lashes. Clinique tapped makeup artist Florrie White to show you how to achieve the look with their new ultra-precise liner called the Skinny Stick (shown in Mini Moss, below).  Again, you can do this with any of the new hues: Blues, greens, and teals are all a go. Pink lips: A matte finish is the way to go, since super-shiny can look a little juvenile in this shade. For a full-on statement, just swipe the color onto your mouth and be done with it. For a more subdued take, try dabbing the product onto your lips with your pointer finger—you’ll get a subtle wash of pink. Bobbi Brown makeup artist Cassandra Garcia created the look below for the fall 2015 Tibi runway show.

New York City makeup artist and photographer Tina Turnbow preps A-lister faces for the red carpet, magazines, and personal appearances on the regular. (Allow us to name drop: You’ve seen her work on Keri Russell, Debra Messing, Amanda Peet, Mary Louise Parker, and many, many more.) Here, five products she always keeps in her glam-on-the-go kit:

CoverGirl LashBlast Clump Crusher Mascara is one of my favorite mascaras ever. I use it on my clients all the time—it’s surprisingly dramatic. The secret is to really wiggle it into the root of the lashes, and then used the curved brush to push the hairs up and give everything a little lift.”

WEI Tibetan Chrysanthemum Correcting Eye Treatment Pads are perfect if eyes look tired. You won’t believe how well they work! The individual pads are cold, so they constrict the blood vessels, tightening puffiness. You’ll look more awake in minutes. All of my clients die over them.”

LORAC Pro Palettes come with tons of super pigmented shades. You can blend them out so they’re sheer or concentrate the color for a bolder look. You can even use them as liner. Plus, I love that they have real staying power, and I can trust that they won’t crease throughout the night.”

“Bright lipstick will call attention to any flakiness or dryness on the lips. Before I apply a bright color, I always prep the lips with Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. Dab it on with a finger, then leave it on for at least one minute, so it has time to sink in.”

“NARS Light Reflecting Loose Setting Powder takes down shine without making skin look flat in photos. It has really nice light reflecting properties and leaves skin with a flattering smooth texture. I use a fluffy brush to dust it onto the T-zone.”
