Friday Finds: Herb-Infused Olive Oils & Soaps

Hi my name is Ellen, and I’m a terrible, awful, no good cook. (Don’t worry, I’m just the beauty guru here at Better Homes and Gardens and, for good reason, have absolutely nothing to do with the amazing recipes in the magazine.) I’m working on learning the basics, though, with the help of the new edition of the red plaid cookbook and Senior Deputy Editor Nancy Wall Hopkins, who is always super nice to me when I beg her to help me troubleshoot one of my (frequent!) kitchen mishaps.  One of the very first things I learned from Nancy — though I’m sure it’s not news to all you experts out there — is that you must stock your pantry with high-quality basics like olive oil. A friend who knows about my quest to become semi-competent in the kitchen gifted me some herb-infused oils from Nudo ($13-15 each), which come in insanely attractive tins.

In the happiest of coincidences, the lovely olive oil-based soaps from the same company landed on my desk that week, and now I’m addicted to both. The generously sized sudsers ($9.49 each) make hands so soft you may not even need hand cream. And, they make the world’s prettiest display in a guest bathroom, a great hostess gift, or a nice treat for yourself. Check out Nudoadopt.com to score both products.

Friday Finds 8.2

Welcome to our new Friday Finds series where I’ll be sharing some of my favorite posts from our BHG Insiders. Here’s what’s inspiring me this week…

I always been a fan of patterns but didn’t consider working triangles into decor until I saw this collection of triangle wall treatments from Oleander and Palm. It’s such a bold way to dress up white walls!

Whenever I go to the farmers market I consider buying succulents but never do. These stylish DIY PVC planters from Squirrelly Minds might be enough to get me to finally make the purchase.

I don’t know what’s more impressive about this 2 Day Kitchen Makeover from Not Just a Housewife – that it was done so quickly or that it cost less than $600.

I hate to say it but summer’s winding down and it’s almost time for school to start. On the bright side, at least you can personalize your little one’s supplies with these “Property Of” printable stickers from Confetti Sunshine!

I love how Finding Home Online turned vintage doors into a DIY desk! Plus, the colorful accents and cute office accessories really pull the entire look together.

Friday Finds 7.19

I spend a lot of time looking at blogs. Working in social media, a large portion of my days at BHG are made up of checking out what clever projects bloggers are  sharing—and my reading typically doesn’t stop when I go home. I find a lot of really cool things hopping from site to site, which is why I’m excited to share our new Friday Finds series with you! Each week I’ll be showing you some of my favorite new content that I’ve found from our BHG Insiders, a group of bloggers that we connect with for projects. Here are some of my recent discoveries:

I’m all for office supplies that show off your personality. These DIY washi tape notebooks and pencils from Lia Griffith are an easy and budget-friendly way to add color to your essentials.

The bold colors and exciting patterns in this pink and navy bed nook from Remodelaholic made this bedroom an instant favorite of mine. It’s not even finished yet and it already looks amazing!

Never underestimate the power of a handwritten note, especially if it’s this cute! Plus, these printable thank you cards from Lovely Indeed even have a template for a DIY envelope.

This beachy space looks like the perfect summer relaxation spot. Planked walls are one of my favorite decorating trends, and this pool house makeover from Four Generations One Roof certainly wears it well!

Simple DIY with a small price tag? Count me in! These DIY Faux Rattan Beverage Coozies from Uncommon Designs are a simple and inexpensive way to dress up any get-together.
