Holiday Decorating In My Neutral Palette Home

Hi there!  I’m Becky and I blog over at This Is Happiness where I share my journey to create a stylish home and beautiful life with my wonderful husband and two amazing children.  My passion is DIY and design, but I also love entertaining, food and fashion all of which you will find me sharing on my blog.  I was recently given the honor of having my free Craigslist piano makeover featured in Better Homes and Gardens “I Did It” section for December, which was such a dream come true.  With the holiday season upon us, today I’m excited to be with you all as a guest blogger and share how I decorate for the holidays in my neutral palette home.

My decorating style is classic, casual and simple.  I love mixing whites, off whites and oatmeals for my base colors including my walls, fireplace stone, sofa, etc.  Then I like to add texture, patterns or sometimes a punch of color with accents and accessories.  Not committing to a particular color in a space gives me flexibility to easily change things up if I tire of them, or for different occasions including the holidays.

For my holiday décor this year I choose to keep it simple and neutral adding a little Christmas flavor with red in small doses.  If you don’t want to use color, introducing pattern and texture will also make a neutral room stand out.  You can accomplish this by using baskets, throws and pillows to help provide warmth and coziness in a space, all of which I included in my holiday décor this year.

I think any space, including a neutral one, needs greenery.  So, in addition to my main Christmas tree, I also love using other greenery to decorate with including my boxwood wreaths, topiaries and smaller lighted trees. Heading outdoors is my other source for holiday decor. Pinecones and pine branches are perfect natural elements that I like to add to my home this time of the year.   Fresh flowers, like paperwhites, almost always make an appearance in my home around the holidays.

This year I used clippings from our holly bushes to tie around my napkins as seen in the picture above. And I created a green garland for our buffet below with clippings from our cedar trees.
