5 Ways to Brighten Your Bed

I’ve lived with a neutral palette in my bedroom for years, but I’m drawn to the idea of adding more color with layered bedding in bright patterns. I prefer a mix of fun textiles from different sources and I’m taking a cue from these bedrooms and their coordinated cheerful patterns. Here are five different examples to help brighten your bed with stylish combinations of colorful linens.

Jazz up a neutral tan coverlet and white sheets with a duvet cover or comforter in a vivid colorful patterned textile and pair it with matching shams. As a finishing touch, add a punchy graphic bolster accent pillow that coordinates with the playful palette.

Be bold with a floral pillowcase or striped bedskirt and balance with simpler or smaller scale botanical fabrics and basic stripes in complementary colors with the duvet cover, comforter, sheets, and shams.

Stripes and botanical motifs are a no fail combination. Use one fabric to set the palette for the bed (the shams) then add layers of linens and accessories in delicate and bold patterns (the lumbar pillow, the coverlet, the rug, the lamp) that play off those hues.

Choose analogous colors for a more soothing and less graphic approach to mixing your bed linens. You can freely partner different styles in both large and small scale repeats when you stick with a singular palette.

If you love the idea of adding more color but prefer less pattern in your bedding, shop for white hotel style linens with a bright border. Solid color accent pillows retain the simplicity of the look and still provide that desirable pop of color.

  1. Can you please tell me where the pointer (bird dog) in the 4th picture is from? My Dad used to raise pointers. That is an unusual piece of wall art. (Love it!)

  2. All bedrooms are fantastic! I’m having a hard time choosing which one I love best! All are Pinterest-worthy! Thanks for this–I’m currently redecorating our bedroom. I’ve bought mostly white linen because I was afraid of color.

  3. There is just one word for that I would say. It’s just “WOW”. A whole lot of changes could be made to living area with so much of ideas to put on. Also the wall arts used here on the walls are really a good selection. Thanks for sharing and I’m gonna use this as template when i plan to design mine one.
