Bathroom Remodeled for Relaxation
Natural light pours in and illuminates the aqua tile in the tub-and-shower room of this suite-style bathroom. The variegated colors of the tiled steps lead to a sunken bathtub. Accessories on the steps add to the serene, beachside feel of the bathroom. The tub-and-shower space is partitioned by transomlike openings. Because the walls do not meet the ceiling, natural light can flow from the tub-and-shower area to the vanity area while maintaining privacy.
BEFORE: Bathroom Renovation Needed
This 15x16-foot spare bedroom was transformed into a spacious suite-style bathroom with two separate spaces. One includes a large walk-in shower and sunken tub. The double-sink vanity and commode are in the other.
Seaside Bathroom Style
Sconces flank the mirrors and work with recessed fixtures to light the interior room. In the vanity room, shell-shape sconces, seahorse drawer pulls, and a blue-and-white glass agglomerate counter bring home the seaside theme. Seeded-glass vessel sinks intensify the illusion of flowing water. Nickel faucets mount directly onto the mirrors above the sinks. The walls and floors are covered with 12x12-inch white glass tiles that lend a sense of translucency.
Shimmering Glass-Tile Shower
A tiled bench in the shower matches the height of the tub surround. A pair of showerheads -- one stationary and one flexible -- makes it easy to wash both locks and toes. Floor-to-ceiling mosaic tiles bring color and pattern to the walls. Copper aggregate in the Italian-glass mosaic gives the tile a shimmering, waterlike quality. Clear-glass shower walls contribute to the room's open feel.
Cottage-Style Bathroom
In the vanity area, beaded-board cabinetry is reminiscent of old beachside cottages. Glass seahorse-shape pulls add a playful touch. Wall-mount fixtures save valuable counter space. Light blue above-counter vessel sinks add a splash of color.
