Contemporary Bathroom

Linear Bathroom Design

This master bath links the bedroom to a walk-in closet. The designer used the narrow shape to his advantage, relegating the tub, shower, and toilet to one side of the room and the vanity to the other. Sleek cabinets and subdued colors honor the home's midcentury modern roots while instilling an air of serenity.

Floating Vanity in a Small Bath

A floating vanity creates the illusion of space in this small bathroom. Cabinets perched on tall metal legs below the vanity enhance the open feel. A support post, which couldn't be removed, was tied into the room with tile that matches the countertop. Windows high on the wall allow light into the small room while protecting privacy.

Colorful Contemporary Bath

Aniline dyes contribute vibrant colors to the vanity's sycamore veneer. The tub features a dyed-concrete surround that matches the vanity countertop. Note how the shower is angled into the corner of the bathroom and enclosed with glass to keep sight lines open. Angular lines on polished chrome hardware and fixtures complement the modern feel.

Modern Bathroom Texture

Custom cabinetry is veneered with Japanese sen, a light-color wood with a very subtle grain that lends itself to contemporary designs. The space between the cabinets and mirrors is fitted with narrow, open storage to accommodate small accessories and towels. The corrugated-metal rolling hampers are a clever use of undercounter space and add texture to the room. Frosted-glass vessel sinks enhance the modern feel.

Contemporary Curves

Linear projections, soft geometry, and minimal ornamentation are hallmarks of contemporary design. These elements are all in play here to make the room look large and open. Especially noteworthy are the vanity curves, repeated in the tub shape, for a fun take on contemporary.

Casual but Elegant Bath

Creating a casual, useful space in an elegant setting was the goal for this remodeled bathroom. Curves in the tub and shower echo the gentle arcs of the vanity fronts and a paneled wall behind the tub. The freestanding antique European tub seems ultra-contemporary in the sleek space.

Modern Pedestal Sink

Pedestals have an upright sense of style that values neatness, nostalgia, and openness. They provide a space-efficient design with roots in the late 1800s. Modern versions of the classic pedestal sink, such as this one, have a clean, sculptural shape that gives a full bath the intimacy of a powder room.

Contemporary Bathtub

The tub in this contemporary bath is set in a surround of watery glass tile. A sliver of light from the adjoining dressing area adds a dramatic touch. The pale aqua and deep ocean blue work together to complement the palette of the rest of the house.

Modern Vanity Design

This remodel simplified the master bath of an older home. Not wanting anything too ornamental, the owners opted for sleek, clean, and modern. Two wall-mount sinks with a small cabinet between them form the vanity area.

Urban Contemporary Bath

This master bath has an urban feel even though it's part of a rural farmstead. A pair of wall-hung basin sinks, each with a set of adjacent built-in drawers with maple fronts, demonstrates the style. White marble tiles, expanses of glass, and sparkling fittings create a fresh, serene atmosphere.

Contemporary Bathroom for Two

Ensconced in earthy textures, this bath for two oozes contemporary style. Above the custom trough sink, made of limestone, each individual prep station is equipped with a mirror, faucet, and deep ledge to hold toiletries. The half-wall provides privacy for the soaking tub on the other side.

Twin Vanities

In expanding this master bath, the designer created a grouping of small, intimate alcoves such as this space for twin sinks. A tall cherry cabinet, accessible from the sides as well as the front, separates the vanities. The division allows personal privacy despite the physical closeness.

13/21
Contemporary Bathroom Windows

Luxurious materials and deep colors produce a soothing ambience in this oceanfront master bath. High interior windows bring in light from an adjacent home office, supplementing the natural light from windows above the vanities.

14/21
Minimalist Bathroom Design

This minimalist master bath is designed to be tranquil. The spacious floor plan allows for both a walk-in shower and a freestanding tub. A walkway separates the sink and bathing areas. The glass shower walls keep the space from feeling closed-in and allow light from the windows to fill the space.

Storage Between Vanities

A low cabinet connecting identical vanities provides additional storage and visual interest without blocking the room's only window. Wall-mount vanities, which often require additional backing to support their weight, appear to float, enhancing the room's open design.

16/21
Modern Geometry in a Small Bath

The vanity's clean lines are a good fit for the tight geometry of this attic space. Note how the back wall was fitted with a mirror to make both sinks functional despite the sharp angle of the ceiling. The unusual square basins pick up the proportions of the cabinets for a strong style statement.

Contemporary Bath Contrast

In this tub area, a gray slate wall and gray tile flooring offer a neutral backdrop for the freestanding tub. In sharp contrast, the wall-hung lavatory is surrounded by a section of raised hardwood paneling and flooring. A wall-hung toilet is a great look but requires special plumbing.

18/21
Modern Tile Design

Black tile forms a chair rail atop gray slate tiles, creating an elongated visual line around the small bathroom. A cherry-finish vanity on the far side of the tub is a striking contrast to the gray tones elsewhere, though a gray marble countertop ties it to the rest of the bath.

Safe and Stylish Bathtub

Soaking tubs are a great alternative to standard bathtubs. However, their additional height requires extra planning. In this bathroom, steps are integrated into the tub surround, and a wall-mount grip bar ensures safety.

20/21
Frosted-Glass Bathroom Walls

Frosted-glass doors and dividing walls are a clever way to separate the bedroom from the bathroom while still allowing light to filter into the bath. A sleek double vanity with a mix of drawers, open shelves, and baskets combines wood finishes, metal, and porcelain sink bowls for a contemporary look.
