Question:
Hibiscus not blooming
Since October my hibiscus has not had a single flower. It bloomed nicely all summer. The plant is growing well and looks good, but I miss the flowers. What can I do?
Expert's Answer
Patience may be needed. Hibiscus (Hibiscus) plants need a lot of sunshine; they bloom best in a bright window, preferably a southern exposure. Even with the right exposure, they may not bloom through the darker winter months when skies are gray and days are short. During this period of slower growth, cut back on watering and fertilizing. Your goal should simply be to get the plant to survive the winter months. When days lengthen in spring, you may want to trim back the plant if it is getting leggy. Increase the frequency of watering, and use a liquid houseplant fertilizer to keep the plant well fed and promote strong new growth.
