1 . I had close to 300 rose bushes in my garden. At late summer, I sprayed them with pesticide, as they showed, symptoms of disease, and now they have died completely, what do i do, I spent a lot of money planting them and looking after them and now they are dead. Please help. I have removed all the dead leaves, and cut them back, what else. The day I sprayed them was extremely hot was it because of that???Please help???I am desperate. To at least save some, any suggestions.???
Your roses certainly could have suffered phytotoxicity from being sprayed on a hot day. Most pesticides caution against spraying at high temperatures. If indeed your roses are "dead", there's little...

2 . I bought a mini rose bush and have planted it indoors in a huge pot with miracle grow soil. The plant sits in the window with full sun. It is doing well except that i only get one bloom (rose) at a time. How can i get more blooms on my plant. When i got there was 5 or 6 flowers on it. Thanks, Arlene Mohr
Hi Arlene Well the problem is the amount of light it's getting. Even in a south-facing window, roses of any type, including minis just don't get enough direct sun to produce flowers. Frankly, they do...

3 . Hi, I live in Georgia and have 32 roses, 14 camellias, and 4 very large gardenias- which are in bloom heavy right now. My Mother in law is very blue and dying of cancer up in South Dakota and I thought maybe I could express mail the gardenias or roses to her each week and follow up with camellias as they will start in a week and keep me in blooms till the end of febuary. I need advice on how best to handle this and could not find any info on the internet.Any ideas? Thanks for all advice. Phyllis
Cut flowers will not last long out of water. Many of the roses and cut flowers available from florists are grown outside the U.S. and flown in, but it is always done with an overnight delivery so that...

4 . I have Northern winter hardy roses and this year one of them has shot up a stock or branch higher than the plant about two inches around really thorney and a few roses on the tips is this a sucker or should I leave it alone?
Hi You don't say what kind of rose this is, but if it's a grafted rose this sounds definitely like a sucker from the root stock. Most grafted roses are grown on wild rose root stock and sometimes the...

5 . Should I cut back my rose bushes before snow and if so how much cutting? thank you deb aylward
Hi Personally, I recommend leaving your roses alone until late winter/early spring. Pruning is best done just before the plants break dormancy in the spring. At that time, remove all dead or crossed ...

6 . is there anything Ihave to do to protect a climbing rose bush in the winter? It's half way around an archway.
Hi It's very hard to protect a climber. If it's not too big you can try wrapping it in burlap, but the key really is to protect the crown of the plant. Depending on what variety you have and how cold...

7 . when and how do i prune?im not sure what kind of roses?
Hi Well the best time to prune roses is in the early spring, just before they break dormancy. Do not prune in the fall. This is true with all types of roses.

8 . How to avoid black spots on rose leaves
If you're growing a susceptible variety, regular sprays with a fungicide can prevent black spot from developing. You might also consider growing varieties with good resistance to the disease so that y...

9 . I have quite a few rose plants that have to be moved. Can I plant them in a place where they will receive full sun for only part of the day. The rest of the time they will be in partial sun or shade.
Roses will do best if they receive at least 6 hours of direct sun per day. Less than that and they will bloom less abundantly and be more subject to diseases.

10 . how far should i cut down my roses for winter and when. they are still blooming and it has gotten into the first frost time in Washington state
Hi I don't recommend fall pruning. Roses are best pruned when they are close to breaking dormancy in the early spring. I suggest you cut all dead or broken branches and cut other canes back by about ...

11 . I assume I prune Lady Banksia roses in the spring after they bloom. Mine are huge, dense & overlap brick walls. They are so top heavy that strong winds blow them back over to one side of the wall & they have to be anchored toward the top. How many canes should I leave; how far back should I cut each cane; and should the remaining canes be shortened; if so, by how much? Dallas gardener
A rambling rose such as Lady Banks, that blooms just once per year is best pruned right after it blooms. You can completely remove the oldest canes and any dead ones, but leave at least 4-5 healthy v...

12 . I have a climbing rose that has been growing in a tub and the roots have grown into the soil, is it possible to cut some of the roots back so I can put it some where else, it's a beautiful strong highly scented rose so I don't want to kill it,I live in South Wales. U.K.
You certainly can cut back the roots. It will be effectively the same thing as transplanting the rose. So after cutting, treat it as you would any new transplant. Pay close attention to watering for s...

13 . Are banana skins beneficial to roses as they contain lots of potassium.
The primary benefit of banana skins for roses would be the addition of organic matter from then after they have decomposed. Compost them first before applying them. (Or dig them into the soil.)

14 . Pls, I'd like to know hoy to avoid yellowing on my miniature roses. Did away with all the problem leaves, but soon the rest showed signs of yellowing too! thank you so much for your help! Tessie.
Hi Well it's going to be hard to answer this one without more information. Are your plants indoors or out? How much sun are they getting? How much water? If they are growing outdoors, do the leaves g...

15 . Can you take a cutting from a knockout rose bush and if so how should you do it?
Hi Well the answer is yes and no. Yes, it's possible to take cuttings of Knock out and root them as you would other roses, but no I can't tell you to do it because Knock Out is a trademarked plant an...
