1 . I Live in NW Arkansas. I would love to plant fruit trees. DWARF TREES. I only have two acers to work with Kinds : apple, cheery, plum, peach, also I would love to plant an English Walnut tree if this is good in my area. What kinds would I get and where can I get them?
Hi Well you can check out our Plant Encyclopedia on this website to find trees that are hardy in your zone. Just do an Advanced Search on the Plant Encyclopedia. As far as finding fruit and nut trees...

2 . I would like advice about saving vinca seeds for next year, please. When is the best time to remove the seed pods from the plant? What is the best way to store the seeds? Thanks! Millie
this was just answered.

3 . when do you repot kangaroo paws
It's best to repot kangaroo paw (or other plants) just before they begin a growth cycle. That usually is in the late winter or early spring.

4 . CAN I WINTER-OVER DUSTY MILLER?
Dusty miller often overwinters in the ground in Zone 5 and warmer if snow cover is reliable. Otherwise, you may be able to overwinter it in a container if you have a cool greenhouse or sun room. It t...

5 . i am going to dig up my whole garden and start over w/ a few things. Some 1 wants some of the oregano. What would be the best way to dig this up so it will grow for them? I m in zone 5 Thankyou. Amanda
Hi It's pretty late in the year to be moving it, but in your zone, I'd dig as much of a root ball as I could and move it to another location fairly quickly.

6 . when is the best time to separate kangaroo paw plants and how to do thankyou
You can divide kangaroo paws either in spring or fall. It's usually easiest to dig up the entire clump and slice through it with a sharp spade. Then replant each section. For more details check out ou...

7 . The "berry balls" on the liriope after the blooms fall off are they seeds? Or do you separate the plant perennials? Do you dry the seeds or just plant them to get ready for spring?
The easiest way to propagate liriope is by dividing existing plants. It's possible to start new plants from seed, but it can be tricky. The flesh of the fruit contains a sprouting inhibitor, so it wou...

8 . My daughter has a Hoya Rope Plant that was orginally my mothers. I gave each one of the girls a section years ago. Only one plant has thrived. I would like to get a cutting from that plant. I don't remember how I went about cutting and can they be rooted in water to start with?
Hi, Thanks for writing. Hoya, or rope plant, roots best from cuttings stuck in moist sand, perlite, vermiculite, or another material that has lots of airflow. They don't typically root well in wate...

9 . What are some of the plants suitable to grow from cuttings (please suggest easy growing plants)?
Hi Many annuals are very easy to grow from cuttings: coleus, geranium and impatiens are the three very easiest.

10 . Can you take a cutting from a knockout rose bush and if so how should you do it?
Hi Well the answer is yes and no. Yes, it's possible to take cuttings of Knock out and root them as you would other roses, but no I can't tell you to do it because Knock Out is a trademarked plant an...

11 . I bought ptilotus exaltatus plants early this summer and they thrived. I would like to try to propagate them. A few weeks ago, I took what I thought were seeds from the flowers and put them in potting soil and nothing has germinated. Obviously I did something wrong. How can I propagate them? I'm not sure I'll find them for sale again in my area next spring. Thanks.
Hi This plant is a tough one to propagate. They can be grown from seed, but germination is generally very poor and the seeds are very slow to do anything. Most plants sold for retail are from tissue ...

12 . Large red pods on my camellias have broken and there are many seeds around the camellia bushes. Is it possible to plant the seeds and grow new plants? Our soil is red clay for the most part and the plants seem to do well with around 4 hours of sun. We live in the south and that is why I am assuming that this plant does well.
Camellias can be started from seed, but the resulting plant is likely to be inferior to the parent from which the seed came, and it will take several to many years for it to reach blooming size. If yo...

13 . How and when is best time to take Rosa Mary cuttings or can you start them this way? Thanks Gary
Hi Yes, you can start rosemary from cuttings. The best time is when the plant is in active growth mode in the late spring and early summer, but you can still probably have some success this late in t...

14 . I planted three beautiful fox glove plants in late August. What do I need to do in order to have blooming plants next summer? I live in the Detroit,MI area.Your help is appreciated.
Most foxgloves are biennials. The first year, the plant grows vegetatively, and the second it blooms and dies (but often self-seeds, ensuring new plants the following year.) If your plants did not blo...

15 . can i take cuttings off a dahlias and put rooting harmone on it and put it in dirt and will it root?
Hi You should be able to do this, but it takes time and isn't always effective. I suggest you simply divide your tubers. It's a lot faster, easier and it helps your plants keep from getting too cro...
