Gunnera is a bold architectural plant. It is grown mainly for its enormous lobed leaves, each of which can span 6 feet across. It thrives in wet places beside streams and ponds and in bog gardens. The small flowers cluster in large structures similar to corn cobs. If happy, gunnera develops into huge and gorgeous colonies, so provide plenty of space.
Contrast the swordlike leaves of water-loving yellow flag iris against the rounded foliage of gunnera for a striking display.Primrose
Water-loving primroses such as Tibetan primrose and Sikkim primrose massed beside a clump of gunnera add grace and charm, and they enjoy some shade from their colossal neighbor.
