St Augustine and winter rye

I had a lovely St Augustine lawn and planted winter rye over it. Will the St Augustine come back?

Overseeding with winter rye shouldn't harm your St. Augustine lawn. Normally as the weather warms up, the ryegrass will begin to fade and your warm season St. Augustine start to take over. It helps to cut back on fertilizer and water at this time to speed the decline of the ryegrass. After the St. Augustine resumes growth, return to normal watering and fertilization regimes.
