How to trim a blue spruce
Is it alright to trim the bottom branches of a blue spruce?

If you'd like to completely remove the lower branches of your blue spruce, you can cut them off at the branch collar (swollen base) at the main trunk without harming the tree. Avoid cutting the branches back part way; it's not a good idea to leave a branch stub, which can die and make an entry point for disease. Cutting back the branches part way can also ruin the natural pyramidal shape of the tree.
