What to plant in the full shade under an old willow?
I live in Morrison Oklahoma and have a large willow tree by the house on the west side. West of the tree is a very large Rose of Sharon and another willow tree beyond that. No sun reaches the base of the big willow and I would like to plant around it so I won't see the roots that are above the soil. The base I am looking at is roughly ten feet by ten feet. What should I plant? Also, I am a novice in the yard and garden.

Hi,

Thanks for writing. Some groundcovers that do a good job competing with tree roots include:

Corydalis lutea

Bigroot geranium

Lily-of-the-valley

Vinca

Ajuga

Ferns
