I have hundreds of palm seedlings growing in my lawn and planter boxes. How can I kill them without killing the sourounding plants. Mostly my lawn? Discovery Bay, California

Thanks for writing. Once they're up, there's not a lot you can do but hand-pull them or mow them down. To prevent them in the future, you could use a pre-emergence herbicide. This type of product works by preventing seeds from sprouting; it doesn't usually harm plants that are already growing.
