Crimson Red Astilbe lost flower color
My crimson red astilbe planted in early June turned brownish green in late June. The plant seems healthy, but the flower has not regained the red color. What caused this change and can I get it to recolor? I live in Loudonville, Ohio.

Hi,

Thanks for writing. Astilbe flowers typically stay in color for a week or two; after that, they fade and it's just a part of the plant's natural bloom cycle. Short of spray painting the spent flowers, there's nothing you can do to get them to stay red longer or get them to turn red again until they send out new blooms next June.
