Pruning spirea
I have some very healthy spirea bushes that have gotten bigger than the nursery suggested they would get. Can I prune and shape them and if so when is the best time to tame them?

The best time to do this is right after they bloom. If you clip them now, you'll remove the future flower buds and your plants won't bloom next year. But, if you don't care about flowers, you can prune them back at most any time.
