I have dwarf fruit trees in apple, pear, and plum that need pruning and am unsure when and how to prune. any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

The time to prune fruit trees is in mid- to late winter. Remove any crossing limbs, dead branches or shoots growing too close to one another.  Consult a good pruning manual or check with  your local Cooperative Extension Service for pruning guide sheets that illustrate detailed pruning steps.
