Planting under a pine tree
Hi, I am wanting to plant a shade loving perennial that would be happy under a pine tree. I would prefer something with flowers: pink, red, or yellow. Thanks so much for your time.

Growing plants under pines can be difficult not only because of the shade, but also because the shallow roots of the pine soak up all the moisture. Whatever you plant should be somewhat drought tolerant. And it would help to amend the soil where you plant with compost or other organic matter. Pulmonaria (lungwort) is one possibility. Others are hellebore, corydalis, and fringed bleeding heart.
