Planting perennials
My flower bed will not be ready for planting for another month. I am in north central Alberta, Canada. When can I plant perennials?

Thanks for writing. You can safely plant perennials anytime until a month or so your soil freezes. If you plant them late in fall, it's a really good idea to spread a few inches of winter mulch over the soil to help protect them for their first winter.

I live in Northern Vermont (near the Canadian Border), and I have been told you can split and/or plant perennials anytime. I am assumming that does not mean winter time! :)
