regrow leaves
i have what i think is a varigated heart shaped philidandrum. i got it from my mother in law and there is new growth at the top(very healthy) but just a long stem beneath that. is there a way i can cut it down safely or regrow leaves from the stem? thanx rosalyn boston,ma

Hi Rosalyn,

Thanks for writing. If you cut the stem back, you can pot up the end you cut off and it should regrow. That should encourage the old stem on the plant to sprout new leaves and shoots and get bushier. To prevent long, lanky, naked stems in the future, you can pinch off the newest leaf or two every few months.
