Fence-line plant
I am looking for a shrub to go along my fence line that is 6 - 8' tall with dense growth. The fence line is 124' long so I need a plant that is readily available. My landscape designer suggested Ficus microcarpa "Green Gem" but I am having trouble finding it. I thought of Carolina Laurel "Bright and Tight" but am concerned that it is poisonous to kids and animals. Do you have any suggestions?

"Ficus elastica (Rubber plant) will be easier to find. In the meantime, here is a brief list of shrubs or tall perennials that would make great fence-line plantings in Zone 10. They are readily available from www.highcountrygardens.com.
Cortaderia selloana 'Pumila' (Dwarf Pampas Grass)
Salvia reptans (West Texas Grass Sage)
Helianthus maximiliana 'Santa Fe' (Santa Fe sunflower)
Caryopteris x canadensis 'Longwood Blue'
Jasminum nudiflorum (Weeping Winter Jasmine)
Philadelphus microphyllus 'June Bride' (Mock Orange)
Buddleia davidii (Butterfly Bush)"
