vegetable container gardens
I wanted to grow a vegetable garden in a child's wading pool. Would this be a good idea? Is it safe to grow vegetables in plastic containers?

As long as you drill lots of drainage holes--a half-inch hole every six inches or so--planting in a wading pool will be fine. Fill it with potting mix, not top soil. We grow in plastic pots, and the plastic of a wading pool has to be contact-safe for children's play in the sunshine, so it should be safe to grow vegetables in. If, after a season or two and some winter weather, the plastic starts to fray and visible bits end up in the soil, I'd probably retire the pool.
