Preparing a large bed for planting
I have a tilled sandy soil large bed to be planted. What is the best way to prepare? I want ground cover, perennials and then some annuals. Sunny spot all day at the NW Coast. Must keep low growing so it does not block view of the lake. About 60 feet oval space.
Add organic matter like compost to the soil to slow drainage a bit and enrich the soil nutrients. Till it in then plant in fall. You haev your choice of a great number of groundcovers, other perennials and annuals. Check with your local county extension service for a comprehensive list - you're looking for plants that don't grow over three feet tall and wide.
