I presume this is a shady area since you will be growing azaleas. Therefore you will want an acid soil that is heavily organic. For small areas, you can purchase acid soill mixes that are used by professional plantsmen. Or add organic matter to your soil until it resembles the soil you find under trees in woodsy areas. Get a soil test from your local extension service and follow recommendations for making the soil more acid if that is required.
