Plantings under crape myrtles
I live in south Alabama. I have several crape myrtles but have been unable to find plantings that grow well under them. I have tried hydrangeas and iron plant but due to the fact they lose their leaves, those plants died from overexposure. Got any ideas. I would prefer perennials.

There are several perennial type groundcovers that tolerate both full sun and shade, especially when the crape myrtles will provide shade during the hottest part of the year. Liriope, ajuga, daylilies, bellflower (Campanula), and dianthus may be good choices for this situation.
