Planting near roots of a maple tree
I would like to plant a garden. There is a maple tree nearby and when I dig, there are a lot of roots from the tree. Will this give me a problem putting a garden there? If I can put one there, are there certain kind of plants that do better than others. I live in a Zone 5 area.

Yes, it will. Maple trees are very shallow rooted and competitive with other plants so you will not have much luck growing anything under or close to them.
