Dividing lupines
I have a beautiful lupine that I'd like to divide. I've read that transplanting is difficult because of it's roots. Need advice on how to divide. What time of year, and how so not to damage original plant.
Lupine does not divide well. It has a tap root rather than a fibrous root system, so digging and attempting to divide it may severely damage the roots. If the plant has formed a large clump, you may be able to slice through it and make two plants. However, it would be better to start new plants from seed.
