Landscaping under palm trees by a swimming pool
I would like ideas to landscape small areas around the pool (flower beds). There are palms already in but we would like to add some color underneath that is easy maintenance and would not over grow on the walkway. We live in a hot and dry climate - these areas would have full sun. There is a rock border around the pool and a few rocks in the flower beds as well.
You'll need hardy plants that can withstand reflected sun and heat from the rocks, the pool and the pool surround. In addition, the soil should be as porous as possible. Once the soil is properly prepared, try the following in your Zone 9 garden:
Fuschia spp.
Aster alpinus (Alpine aster)
Aquilegia spp. (Columbine)
Crested or dwarf Iris
Iberis sempervirens (Evergreen candytuft)
Myosotis scorpioides (Forget-me-not)
Sempervivum spp. (Hens and chicks)
Sedum spp.
Ceratostigma plumbaginoides (Leadwort)
Armeria maritima (Sea thrift)
Wild thyme (Thymus serpyllum)
