In Front of the deck
We have a rectangular deck that is slightly raised off the ground and the longest side faces out. We have cut a garden in front but find that it is on a terrible slope downwards. Is there a better way to cut down on the slope or to create a better bed out front? The soil just falls down to the ground level and looks terrible.

You may need to create a small retaining wall or terrace to hold the slope in place. Planting it with a groundcover could also keep the soil from eroding away. The current issue of  Better Homes and Gardens Landscape Solutions (on newstands in about one week) has several articles on dealing with slopes. You might check it out for ideas.
