raised garden bed (vegetables)
I'm so excited. I live in Central New York and my raised garden is in place. The weather has not been typical summer weather but when we do get a warm day, it reaches 80. Is there some kind of vegetable I can grow at this time, maybe lettuce? - or swiss chard? I'm so anxious to get started growing.

Well July is pretty late to start a big garden, but you still have time to grow a fall crop if you get your vegetables in now. Green beans, lettuce, Swiss chard, radishes, spinach, broccoli can all be planted now for harvests before frost. It's too late to plant potatoes, onion and tomatoes. Just be sure to keep your seedlings moist if the weather gets really hot. The key is to time it so they mature during the cooler weather in fall. So, get planting now.

What is the best way to avoid the tomato horn worm? We live in the Panhandle of Florida. This year we planted our tomatoes in large pots and buckets on the patio because of last years dissappointing year.
