Day Lily Dilemma
What is cutting the blooms off of my day lilies and how do I stop them? I come out in the mornings and find that they have been chewed or cut off during the night and are laying on the ground. Nothing has been eaten.

If they've been cut off at soil level, you've probably got cutworms. Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) is a safe and effective natural pesticide that works on all cutworms and caterpillars. It's also possible that birds snipped your daylilies because the long strap-like leaves are handy in nest building; that problem will go away by early summer.
