Hill in backyard
Our backyard has a steep hill and it is so hard to cut the grass. Can you suggest what we could do with it instead?

Try some low-maintenance groundcovers that will look great and require no mowing at all. You didn;t say whether the slope is in sun or shade; I am assuming it's in sun because you grow grass there. Try one of these or a combination--some of them bloom: Euonymus fortunei; Hemerocallis spp.(Daylily); Hypericum calycinum(St. Johns Wort); Iberis sempervirens (Candytuft); Juniperus conferta (Shore Juniper); Liriope muscari (Lily Turf) Liriope spicata (Creeping Lily Turf); Ophiopogon japonicus (Mondo Grass) Pachysandra procumbens; Phlox subulata; Armeria maritima (Thrift); Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary);Santolina chamaecyparissus (Lavender cotton); Santolina virens (Green Santolina); Sedum acre (Gold Moss Stonecrop); Sedum spectabile; Vinca major (Big Periwinkle); and Vinca minor (Periwinkle).

Hi, Well it depends on how much sun the area gets, but you could try planting a ground cover on the slope. You can go to our Plant Encyclopedia on this website and do an Advanced Search on  your needs and you should get a list of planting options.
