Help for boring Wisconsin ranch house
We just bought a very typical midwest ranch house, very straight and boring. The front has a front door, large picture window and one bedroom window and 1/2 brick front. Most of the area homes are exactly the same, with evergreen bushes straight across the front. Do straight line gardens work best in this situation or should/could we do something curved. And what kind of plantings, preferably not flowering because I'm terrified of bees. Thanks!

Whether to use straight-line beds or curving beds is a matter of personal taste. It might help you to take our "What Is Your Garden Style?" quiz at http://www.bhg.com/bhg/quiz.jsp?quizId=/templatedata/bhg/quiz/data/1189707784144.xml. Because each home and yard is unique, it may be worth your while to consult a professional for ideas of what to plant. An on site visit is really the only way to determine what is best for the site. You could also look through the planting plans on our web site for ideas. You'll find them at http://www.bhg.com/gardening/plans/.
