Best flowers for windy locations
I have a hard time getting my flowers to grow because our house faces into the wind. I live in Boardman, Oregon, and the west wind almost constantly blows, usually between 20-50 mph. What flowers will stand up to a constant beating from the wind? I am trying to grow low, bush-type flowers but so far nothing is working other than petunias. Any suggestions?

Try some tough, drought-tolerant plants (winds are very drying) that don't grow much over two-or three- feet tall. Santolina, Lavender, some penstemons, Origanum x 'Amethyst Falls,' Silver spike grass (Achnatherum calamagrostis), Salvia x 'Black Cherry,' Perovskia atriplicifolia 'Filigran' (Filigran Russian sage), and Gaura lindheimeri are all good choices for your location. Work some compost and sand into the soil to make it well-drained.
