What type of soil and material should I use to plant vegetables in a container?

You need to use a commercial potting mix. Miracle Gro has a good brand, as does Fafard. And, in many cases the potting mix already has plant food mixed in so all you need to do is pour it into the pot and plant it. You can buy potting soil like this at any garden center or Wal-Mart, Lowes, or Home Depot. Just be sure to use a large container if you plan on growing larger veggies such as tomatoes. And, be sure the pots you use have drainage holes and that you have a sunny spot to set them in. Vegetables need at least 8 hours of sun a day.
